Going to Holguin Cuba late Nov. Anyone been there or close to there recently? Wondering about water temp. I have heard diving not great but I heard that about Puta Cana and still injoyed diving there it sure beats working.

The US has recently established a special enforcement unit to insure that we do not go there. They seem rather slow on the uptake. The US embargo has not resulted in the ouster of Castro in 40 years. The rest of the world allows free travel to Cuba. Increased enforcement to keep US tourists out of Cuba just costs US taxpayers money. I'd like to see what the diving is like.

Hey, Dennis...

RWB is posting from The Great White North aka Canada; there are no such restrictions on Canadians going to Cuba.

Just thought I'd point that out... ;)

Pax,

I dove iin Jibacoa about 4 or 5 years ago. It is about half way between Varadaro and Havana. The reefs were some of the best I've seen. There was aloso tons of fish.

They use bar & meters instead of psi & feet, which caused a little bit of an issue.

We dove from Brisa Guardalavaca in March 2004. Only had our open water and the dives were pretty plain. Some interesting coral mounds, small number of fish. Did see multiple trumpet fish which were a fish I had not seen before. If you have advanced open water there were some interesting swim throughs, enter at 80 feet and come out a 110.

Water was cool in March, don't know about November.

We were using 3-mil full suits. I have a 7-mil which would have been too warm. A 5mill would have been just right.

Hi rwb,:blinking:

I was in Cayo Coco on the 2nd week of September ,water temp @ 20m was 28oC ... 3mm full

Last April, was in Cayo Largo for 2 weeks, water temp @ 15m was 25oC ....3mm full

;) Going back to Cayo Largo this coming April .... Awesome diving there and the Instructors are really fun to dive with !!!

FYI ... Usually I fly south on AirTransat, and they do not charge for Scuba equipment ... Have all your gear in 1 suitcase and when you check in tell the attendent it is sporting equipment ... He or she will ask you to open your suitcase to check, and will not charge you for additional suitcase !!! Check with your travel agent.

I am going there in feb and i was wondering if you could let me know what it is like.
Steph
