IHi my name is chris and i'm new to this sight and trying to figure out where to go on vaction with my friend. 'm trying to figure out if I should go to cuba or mexico. I want to scubadive. This is my most important criteria. I will be whereever the good diving takes me in these two desinations. If the scubadiving is better in Cuba i'm willing to go there because my friend would rather go there while I want mexico. I also hear the scubadving is amazing in Belize. Is it better than mexico. Can I stay in Cancun and scubadive on Cozumel. I hear the diving is amazing there.

Hope someone can answer my question.

Sure, I would stay in Cozumel and dive there. If you go to Cuba say hi to Fidel for me.

Hi Chris and welcome to Scubaboard

Cuba is a lot cheaper and has some fantastic diving, especially in less populated areas. Coral reefs are awsome (Cienfuegos, Marea del Portillo, etc.) but in more densely populated areas, big fish are not as present as they should be due to overfishing to feed a sadly starving population. Still lots of marine life and fish though.

Mexico (Yucatan) is awsome too but is much more expensive. Cozumel is a must and the cenotes are still my most fantastic dives ever.

So it depends on your budget and interest in the Country. Cuba is fascinating and who knows what will happen when Castro dies.

I'll be in Cuba in 2 weeks btw :D

I'm an American I'm dont' even know what CUBA is. Is it near the Great Lakes? just kidding

I hear Cuba is amazing.

I just came back from Cuba, and had a very good time diving on the North side in Varadero. Now I was told that if I had the time, a trip to the South side of the island to dive the Bay of Pigs is even better. So if you choose Cuba, make a point to dive the South side, either stay there, or plan a day trip, which all the dive operators in Varadero do at least once a week.

Yep, Bay of pigs is supposed to be amazing. These are shore dives since the wall is very close to shore. However, last year, there was no accomodations in Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs). The closest to this is Cienfuegos on the other side bay (hotels Rancho Luna or Faro Luna) and these are boat dives but the reefs and wrecks are out of this world.
