Anyone been diving in Cuba? Considering this as a destination for our honeymoon next year. Would like to spend a couple days in Havana then move on to a resort to relax and get some diving in? Any suggestions of where to go on the coast to get some good diving? What time of year is good there (will probably be difficult but looking to get some good weather but avoid the crowds too)?

Thanks for any suggestions.

If I could offer a suggestion. I was in Cuba in January for a Wedding and took afew days off to dive. We stayed on an Island called Cayo Largo (http://www.debbiescaribbeanresortreviews.com/cuba/cubarevind.html) and the diving was far better than expected. Hundreds of Barracuda every dive, black tip reef sharks, turtles, you name it. Vis was 40-60 feet and 3mm full suits perfect. We did have one day bad diving (our first, very cold and bad vis but went to far better sites for the other days). I'd suggest seeing Havana (there are day trips from the resort) but the Sol Club in Cayo Largo would be awesome for a nice, beautiful and quite honeymoon with great diving! Just my 2 PSI.

You didn't specify what time of year you are going but Cuba has some great diving areas. I have been diving in the Varadero area, Bay of Pigs on the south coast, and also Cayo Largo as the previous post. There are a few good reviews on this board and one good link to www.awoosh.com who has a pretty good selection of photos and narrative. There are also some good web sites that offer a fairly good amount of info. on diving in Cuba. I would also suggest that your local dive shop may be a good resource as people generally chat about their recent trips. There is also a very good dive/travel company in London Ont. called Squba Holidays that may also have some info. for you.
