I'm a newbie (just did my OW dives today), and I bought a Cressi Back Jac BCD. I used it during the three pool sessions, and today for three OW dives. I'm having a problem getting air to evacuate when I want to submerge, and even more so when I'm submerged and want to drop down further. The variables are me, as a new diver with limited experience, and the BCD. I'd like to get some feedback as to what I may be doing wrong, or why the BCD may not be evacuating properly. Thanks.

sometimes it takes some practice to use the BCD effectively. As you are most likely aware, the dump valve needs to be the highest point in order to let the water pressure push the air out. You should have someone watch you dumping the air to see if you are in fact getting the dump valve to the highest point.

There is of course the possibility that the dump valve is defective, but you can test that in your bathtub.

As for dumping air to go down, you shouldn't need to do that. You should only need to exhale to go down further, and then after a bit, you will need to add some air to maintain neutral buoyancy.
