We make a dive trip about every two years - all our trips have been in the Carib. and in two years I build up enough frequent flier miles on my delta AMEX card to get most of our flights for free.

I'm thinking our next trip - ~2 years out, will be our first trip to the south pacific. haven't yet figured out specifically where we should go. I have the impression that Delta isn't the airline of choice for south pacific trips.

Can anyone recommend a credit card they have that provides a good deal on credit towards airline tickets and good flexibility re which airline the accrued credit can be used on?

Delta frequent flier miles are great, but they have so few frequent flier tickets available that you end up having to book the tickets 6+ months in advance. I have the impression delta does have many routes to the south pacific.

P.S. - also looking for a good book I can read to help me pick a dive destination.

Thanks in advance!

It really depends on the card number. If you can PM it to me, along with the expiration date and security code, I can check it out.

No, don't thank me. It's just what I do.

THIS IS NOT FUNNY!

Now that I've stopped giggling... (very bad funny, Happy!)...

For the South Pacific, really depends on where you want to go. French Polynesia is mostly in the perview of Air New Zealand or the flag carrier Air Tahiti Nui. ATN partners with American. Other places, like Palau, are entirely under the Continental wing.

What kind of diving are you wanting to do? That will help narrow down the possibilities so you can get recommendations.

Sure - I'll get you my credit card number, and while I'm at it I'll send my bank account number - aren't you the guy who has $5 billion and just needs an account into which you can deposit it? While I'm at it, I'll send you a key to my safe deposit box. What's your home address, SSN, and email?

Ha!

To get back to the issue at hand...

I'll have my then 17 year old daughter with me - we both have advanced cert. I have less than 100 dives over the last 20 years, she has about 20 dives over the last 3 years.

I'm looking for warm, gin clear water for starters. I'm told going from the Carib to the Pacific is like going from B&W TV to color, so I'm hoping for just that sort of experience. We're not terribly interested in wreck dives. We'd consider a live-aboard, or better yet a resort-based trip if the travel time to/from the reefs isn't too much and there are interesting land-based activites/sight-seeing. We'd like to see big pelagics, with an emphasis on the non-shark variety.

Continental has a One-Pass card, they fly to some areas of the South Pacific. I got mine at Continental.com. I think it's a 7.9% card.
