A group of scientists put 5 divers in a cage, in the middle of which was a ladder and at the top of the ladder there was a nice new dive computer.
Every time one of the divers started going up the ladder the scientists fired a jet of cold water at them.
After a while, whenever one of the divers started going up the ladder the others would beat him.
So eventually none of the divers tried to go up the ladder in spite of the temptation.

Then the scientists substituted one of the divers.

The first thing the new diver did was try to go up the ladder whereupon all the others jumped on him and beat him up.

The new member of the group rapidly learnt not to go up the ladder.

A second diver was then substituted and the same thing happened, with the first participating enthusiastically in the beating.

Then they changed a third, and a fourth and finally the last of the veterans was eliminated.

So the scientists ended up with a group that, even though they had never been subjected to the jet of cold water, beat any of its members that tried to get at the new technology.

And when asked why, answered, "I don't know, it's always been like this, that's the way things are...."

Interpret as you will :dazzler1:

LOL... Did I smell a DIR dig in there somewhere?

hehehe Just kidding...

Airplanes used to be flown using only needle/ball/air speed and magnetic heading.
Many of the landings done now by larger aircraft are done hands off by the pilots and guided solely by computer.

you know that word "paradigma" you keep using? i don't think it means what you think it means

but that's a whole new paradigm (pa-ra-dime)

Yep, the "a" went in by accident. It's "paradigma" in Portuguese, Spanish & Italian and paradigm in English and a few other languages. Since 90% of my daily typing is not in English sometimes the hand is faster than the eye.

As for the meaning, it's what I meant:
"4. paradigm - the generally accepted perspective of a particular discipline at a given time; "he framed the problem within the psychoanalytic paradigm"
perspective, view, position - a way of regarding situations or topics etc.; "consider what follows from the positivist view" "

lol... i know it was a typo.. but can't i give you a hard time anyway?

I was hoping for a Paradogma, but that would be a different story.

The only thing that I really want to know is whether or not the original version with apes/chimps/gorillas and bananas is true or just another urban legend. (I guess if I wasn't so lazy I could look it up on snopes - never mind)

"Paradogma"

... LOL Nice one!
The original story reminded me so much of some of the "dogmas" expressed by certain Scubaboard members that I adapted it. ;)
