We are headed down to Cozumel this weekend. I am concerned about the power going off at night due to needing my sleep machine to sleep well. Are there other options to have limited power all night? I would imagine I am not the first person needing this, so I was wondering how others solved this problem.

One solution I thought of is a little expensive, but would work if the Hotel would allow it. I could try to purchase a car battery and battery charger somewhere on the island. Using an inverter, I could use my machine over night. During the day the charger could re-charge the battery. I don't like this solution, so I am hoping there is something better.

Thanks,
John

When I sleep, my airway relaxes enough to allow it to collapse momentarily. When this happens, I wake up enough to allow me to breathe again. The CPAP (breathing machine) is similar to a little air compressor with a hose feeing a mask that provides constant air pressure. The increased air pressure stops me from snoring and it keeps my airway from closing while sleeping. It is not a dangerous condition, but annoying(mostly to my wife and any neighbors).

Maybe I should clarify one important question. I read that the electricity is shut of on the island for part of the night. Is that true? If not, my origninal question does not matter.

Off of the top of my head I have no idea for keeping the device powered during an outage. But, power outages are not all that common. And the power is not shut off at night. And, for the most part, when outages do occur, the power is back on within a few minutes.

I dont ever remember power going off while Ive been there. Quite a few times. I would have had to reset my clock if it did go off.

Perfect, thanks for clearing that up. That's what I get for using the internet for my information :)

Periodic outages are not a problem. I deal with them here at home as well. My wife will be happy to learn the Air Conditioning will be usable all night as well.

I've been there for a major power outage, but that was once out of 10 trips. Another alternative as a back up power source may be a UPS for computers. (Uninterupted Power Supply). They come in various sizes and depending on the load your air pump will place on it (how many watts) you should be able to find something that's not too big nor too expensive, with many uses later.
They are basically an inverter & gel battery combined in a nice case, and you plug it into the wall & your pump plugs into it. If the power goes off you are automatically switched over to the internal battery. It will power your pump until the power comes back on or until the battery drains below the safe voltage needed to supply reliable power (this varries by size / price of UPS) You shouldn't need a really big one, but you will need to know how many watts your pump consumes to pick one.
