Has anyone had any experience diving the wreck on the east side of Cozumel (windward side)? I read that it's suspected to be a Spanish galleon, and that about a dozen cannons, ballast stones, and a number of cannonballs were exposed by the effects of Hurricane Wilma. Anyone have info about operators that take divers to this site?

This got a mention in the new (Oct 2007) issue of Scuba Diving magazine, page 44. They don't mention any operators, only that you get picked up at your hotel, driven to the East side and dive from a panga. I didn't think anyone dove on that side of the island.

Aldora does trips out there and they do mention the wreck of a galleon. They will only do the trips to the windward side on request and from what I have seen so far from trying is it is a pain to get them to take you, The weather has to be "just right to them" Of course I understand that weather conditions will vary and I accept that. Just adding my 2 cents worth

Yup, I've seen both the Scuba Diving article (which triggered my interest), and I've seen the Aldora video footage from the Cozumel forum link. I love Coz, and I'm interested in ancient wrecks, so I thought this might be a perfect match. I'd like, however, to hear from anyone who's actually done the dive. Thanks for the input!

I dove Cozumel many times and never did the Felipe until this past trip in June. Never heard anything about a wreck on the east side, probably because it was pre-Wilma.
I wanna go! I wanna see the wreck!
