We have been on 3 dive holidays to Playa del Carmen and have really enjoyed the diving here and in Cozumel. We are now trying to decide if we want to go back to the same place where we know the diving will be awesome or should we try Sea of Cortez instead. We would like to hear from people who have dived both areas. Also any information or advice (places to stay, dive shops etc) you have on the Sea of Cortez would be appreciated. We will be going either in October or November.
Thanks in advance

The Sea of Cortez is third on the list of must abundant variety of marine life in the world. Diving at San Carlos is terrific and you will see as much, if not more than you will at Cozumel. We don't normally have the fun drift dives that Coxumel had, but I've been on a few here.

Where do you like to stay? Who do you dive with?

I own a house there, but there are several very nice hotels and condos available. If no one else posts here, I'll get a list of them. I have my own boat, but occasionally I'll go out with one of the shops. My favorite is El Mar. They have a good boat and crew, and are a lot of fun to dive with.

Having dove both, the Sea of Cortez is the better dive destination, in my opinion. The water is colder and the conditions more variable, but the abundance of life in the Pacific eclipses that of the Atlantic and your opportunity to see megafauna in the Sea is infinitely better. The Nautilus Explorer is a great way to do the Sea, but you can also day trip it from Baja if that's your style.

I've been diving in Cabo Pulmo and near La Paz as well as many times in Cozumel and a few in Playa del Carmen.

La Paz and Cabo Pulmo are both interesting experiences.

This video gives you a pretty good idea of what you can see at Cabo Pulmo. Perhaps at times not as many large schools of fish.

We did spot juvenile whale shark near La Paz. I dove with club cantamar in La Paz and Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort and had a good time with both.

Do dive companies go from Cabo up the Sea of Cortez? Can you recommend one? thanks
