I dived here in Cozumel the week of Feb 10 for 5 days with some friends who came down from Chicago. We had quite bit of rain the first part of the week and slow currents in the Park. The visibility was down due to rains at the southern sites due to the rain. Thermoclines were cold. We planned to dive in the north for eagle rays but due to a scheduling conflict, we could not. I dove with Bottom Time Divers and my friend stayed at Secrets which has a guest paid pier fee.
We had other divers on the boat and some new divers who did well. A couple of the divers were trying to get in 4 dives per day and dove afternoons with another company.
The first day I did not have my camera and had 3-4 single eagle rays come close. The last day I saw one eagle ray on two dives that came up from the bottom and passed very close. Unfortunately I had turned everything off and clipped the camera in. So I got one hurried and blurred shot. The other days it seemed that someone told the eagle rays where I would be diving and they stayed away. Others saw rays on different dives the same day.
So mostly I shot smaller stuff. There seemed to be a lot of juvenile drums this week. And quite a few barracuda and larger schools of jacks.
I cannot identify which Goby shown below (blue and white striped). The white dot on the forehead along with the multiple colored lines on the body aren’t consistent with ID material I have.
