Cozumel Palace Update

Hello All.

Just wanted to share an update on Cozumel Palace (aka PLG). My husband and I were scheduled to stay at the hotel May 7-14th. I have been calling the Palace company reservation desk weekly to get updates on the renovations. As of yesterday, I was advised to contact my travel agency representative and book my hotel reservations with a new hotel. They are still listing the opening date as TBD. The reason that I share this information is that the Palace Hotels is not notifying customers that the open date has been postponed (original open date of Jan 05). If you have a package, similar to our Orbitz reservation, you would be clueless of the renovations. We are lucky to be members of this board and had been warned of the on-site chaos. I contacted Orbitz yesterday and they were able to shift our reservation to a new hotel without financial penalty.

To all on the ground, thanks for keeping us posted. We are super excited for our May 7-14 dive trip.

Their original opening date was December 23 after closing in August which gave all of us a good chuckle.

Then they said Jan...then March...then April...I would say an August opening is even pushing it!

It does look like it's going to be nice when they're finished though!

The waterfront was inaugerated (sp?) Sunday night! There was a big celebration in the square with fireworks and all. It looks great and it was so refreshing to be able to drive from one end of the island to the other yesterday without having to detour!

Personally, I would wait for at least a couple of months after they are open and the staff have gotten things a bit more under control before I would even consider staying there.
