I am looking for recommendations on Cozumel fishing charters, preferably recent.

My buddy and I will be in Cozumel July 15th - 22nd 2004 and we are considering fishing as an activity for our final day on the island.

Anyone have experiences to share? Charters to recommend? Charters to avoid? Potential pitfalls? Any basic suggestions? Expected cost range?

Thanks in advance for not telling me to search the archives, and thanks in advance for not hijacking this thread.

I always just catch a cab about 5:30 in the afternoon to the Caleta and walk around, find a boat, and make a deal; the boats will be coming in for the evening about that time. You can see the boats and talk to the crews; they usually offer me a beer.

There's a guy there named Carlos (Charlie) Moreno who captains the boat "La Graaan Cosa", whom I highly recommend; his boat fishes 6 comfortably. He's good friends with some other captains on smaller boats, too. If you bear to the left at the Caleta entrance, his berth is about 2/3 of the way around

Full day charters usually start at about $400.

If you see Charlie, tell him hi from Gordon Gunn, OK?
