Just read in Rodales that the winter water temp in Coz ranges from 75* to 85* Is that correct? If that's the case, I guess February's water temp in Coz would be closer to 75*? Don't know why I thought it stayed constant in the 80s? I was going to take just my 1 mil and skin but now I'm thinking 3 mil and hood for 3 dives a day. Can any of you winter Coz divers give me the scoop on that? Thanks

IMHO, you should pack the 3mm and throw in your hood for cheap insurance. The water will be in the upper 70's and when an el Norte is blowing, it can get downright chilly during the SIT. You can always get cooler in a wetsuit, you can't get warmer...

What dates are you going to be in Cozumel and where are you staying?

Sounds like a good idea. Going 12th to 17th of Feb and staying at Hotel Cozumel. Will be divng with Dive Paradise .It's what I did 2 years ago too. I just like the great diving there. SIT?

I've only ever been there in January and the temps ranged from 78-80F. A 3mm worked great for me. A little warm at times, though, but overall it was fine. If you're worried, bring along your 1mm and you can always layer. I've done that on occasion.

temp now is 85...I`m going xmas eve...Hotel Cozumel all inclusive...2 tanks a day w/ meals is the way to go..but adding several other dives.....3 mil max/ or dive skins.....try the cinote caverns as a good dive also, just off Playa Del Carmen, it is on the net ,...use google to find " diving in mexico", about a 35 min boat across from Cozumel.....well worth the time.....have fun....Eagle-scuba

Thanks. I doubt there would be much difference between Jan and Feb there? I don't think I'd have to layer my 1 mil under my 3 mil, would I? Did you mean there might be some days when the 1 mil would be enough? Bring the hood, right?

I have the same thing at Hotel Coz but in Feb. I stayed there once before and it was ok. The diving is great though! I'd love to do the cinote caverns but I won't have enough time. That's over on the Cancun side?

For me, if it's above 80F, a 1mm would work fine. If you feel cold with a 3mm, layering a 1mm underneath might work - I've done that before. I did an hour drift dive a couple of months ago with a 1mm layered under my 3mm in 65F water and was fine.

If you plan on doing the Cenotes on the mainland, keep in mind the water might be a bit cooler. I did them last year and the temps were in the mid 70s, so here a hood and some gloves might come in handy.

Ummm...subtract about 6º from that. Just got finished running profile from my divemasters computers (2 of them) and both read 79º today.

It's been that way for several weeks now. Low temperature in Jan/Feb will get down to between 76º and 78º

This great advice saved me from being totally unprepared. Thank you all. I would never have guessed I needed a jacket for inbetween dives either. Thank you, Christi.
