Look's like we will be traveling to Cozumel late april only the two of us.
Our friends can't make it.. so our choices are the Hotel Cozumel or Occidental Grand.
We realize the difference in price but can afford it , if it is worth the extra $$$
We will dive every day and the travel agent recommended Dive House . we would appreciate any comment on this dive OP and/ or the choice of hotel.

The Occidental Grand is a top notch facility. Everything about it is great. Hotel Cozumel is OK but the food may be disappointing. Dive Paradise is the HC in house dive op and Dive Palancar is the OG dive op. Both are quite adequate. Dive Paradise will get you a little more bottom time but Dive Palancar will get you better quality 2nd dives on the southern shallow reefs.

Hotel Cozumel is close to town but thats the only advantage over Grand. If you are very experienced divers you might not like the in house shop. They tend to have many new divers but they are close to the southern sites.

Best for experienced divers is www.liquidbluediving.com they dive small fast boat with large steel tanks for extended bottom times.

IMO hotels are secondary....find a good dive op first....most dive ops will pick you up at most hotel piers....:) I use BXTS....no hurries no worries http://www.bluextseadiving.com/ have a great time

But the HC is a lot closer to the great little restaurants in town.

And the Grand benefits from shorter boat rides. Depends on what's more important. Personally, I can get a lot of good gourmet food where I live so while on vacation, I prefer shorter boat trips. YMMV.

I will be staying at the Grand late April early May with my non diving wife. The main reason we chose the Grand was for the nice beach and the Spa. However, i'm not looking forward to the $30 roundtrip taxi ride into town.

The nice thing about Hotel Coz is that it's a 15 minute walk into town but the beach area just doesn't compare to the beaches at the southern resorts.

If it were up to me, and my wife didn't care about the nice beach and the SPA, I would chose Hotel Coz for the price and location. I would have breakfast and lunch at the hotel and head into town for dinner every night to eat at one of the many great restaurants in town.

But, since it's not up to me, i'll be staying at the grand and kicking out 30 bucks a day or more in cab rides to go out to dinner. From what I hear though, it is one of the nicer hotels in Coz and the buffet food is actually pretty good compared to other all inclusives.

Went diving with Dive House and they were fantastic!!! We stayed at Iberostar and
they picked us up at our pier. They ran a few minutes late each day, but what's the hurry? It was the first time in 15 years that I ever let anyone set up my gear. We really had a good time with those guys and would HIGHLY recommend them. They are based out of Fiesta Americana, which like Iberostar is a very nice resort. We really
wouldn't have much good to say about the on-site dive op at Iberostar.
