The wife and I are going to Cozumel a couple of days ahead of our kids due to scheduling issues. I am renting a car at the airport and plan to pick it up on arrival. Since we will have the car my plan is to pick them up at the airport when they arrive. I want to tell them before we leave where at the airport I will pick them up. Does anyone know where this would be? Is it the same place right outside where the vans pick up passengers or will they have to walk somewhere else when they get out the door? They are young adults and have been to Cozumel before so they are familiar with the sharks and the taxi ride but this will be a new experience for us.

Take a look at Google maps, You can get a street view of the airport and pick a spot. The street view is amazing anywhere in San Miguel.

Thanks. I looked at that but not sure what spots they will allow me to drive into. I did a search for airport maps but the ones I found really didn't indicate a place where you could pick up passengers. I can't remember if I ever saw anything other than the collectivo or whatever the vans are called at the place where they pick up right outside the door.

From Google Earth I see a lot of parking spaces in front of the terminal. Park and wait for them outside.

I have picked up family at the airport and had no problems. I parked in the lot and met them as they exited past the time share gauntlet. We took bags across the airport drive where the pick up vans are and just went to the truck that I had parked in the lot.
As far as I know, family or friends can be taken and picked up at the airport with no alarm from the taxis. They are usually pretty busy and two or three passengers who have a family ride seem to pose no problems.

You can even drive right up to the exit from the building at the curb and pick them up, nobody is going to care or stop you, you're doing nothing wrong at all. The car traffic at the air port is almost zero. You could probably park the car in the middle of the driveway in front of the airport for 20 minutes before anybody noticed it.

Friends pick me up at the airport every visit. They park in the lot right in front of the airport and wait right were the timeshare guys are. Its just a short walk to the truck. She had been picking me up curbside up until a few years ago and said she was asked to park in the lot one time by the police and has been parking there ever since. There is no charge to park.

Park your car in the front lot, as everyone has said, and go into the arrivals building -- you can wait inside, watch them clear customs, and meet them when they exit the customs doors.

Only thing I would add is that I have heard that there is a "rule" (written or unwritten, I don't know) that commercial and other rental property owners not organize or provide transport to rental property guests outside of the taxi system? Anyone else heard this?
