We're having a heck of a time finding someplace to go May 6-13.

We're trying to find a place with good diving for me and sunny weather and beaches for my wife.

The original plan was Belize to hopefully catch the whale shark migration, but then everything we saw said the month was characterized by big thunderstorms. Then we planned on Oahu, but with the raw sewage pumped into the Ocean last week, that isn't looking like such a good idea anymore. Now we're looking at going back to Coz instead.

Can anybody tell me what the weather is typically like in Cozumel this time of year? I'm seeing conflicting information. Some sources say rainy season starts at beginning of May, others say not until June.

Thanks,

Drew

I go to Cozumel in May virtually every year; I love it. Do not be deterred by Wunderground predictions that say "thunderstorm" or "chance of thunderstorms"; a couple of years ago, Wunderground said that for every day of our 12 day stay. It rained once during the day for about 10 minutes and twice overnight. It had no impact on our trip whatsoever.

I agree comepletely with ggun, I have been in May/June/July/August, and May was BY FAR the best month weather wise IMHO. :) There is a chance of rain every day, but if it does rain, it usually just pours for 5 minutes and moves on. It is quite nice actually!!! Cools the temps down and gives everything that fresh rain smell!

So dont let their forecast scare you off.....it is the tropics! It is supposed to rain there! :)

May is my favorite month for diving Coz. I agree with ggun. However, if your wife requires beaches, Coz is not the best place for that. A few of the resorts may have been able to bring in some sand but do not expect beaches ala Grand Cayman !

May is definatly the best time to go to Coz because it is...before school is out and before hurricane season temps are milder in May as well...it is also after the Nortes that can put you out of diving for a day.

May is a good time to go, right after snowmobile season and just before fishing starts in Wi. Great time to deep sea fish in Coz on your off day off of diving.

Thanks. That helps a lot. I briefly thought that if the weather in Coz wasn't going to be that bad, maybe we should rethink Belize, but I think we're going to book into the Grand Cozumel tonight.

I read a couple of posts on trip advisor that suggested a lot of the beaches actually have more sand post-Wilma than they did before. That said, we're not expecting Grand Cayman style beaches. As long as the weather is warm and sunny, she'll be happy with a halfway decent beach and a pool

What about water temps for late May? And are the thimble jellies gone by them? I've been in Dec, Feb, Apr, but this year will be the first time I'm going in May.

I went one year in very late May, and the thimble jellies were still spawning/on the surface on some dives. No big worry just stay under the water until you are next in line and then fin the surface real good once or twice nd it should clear you an spot to get out quick. Or wear a full length dive skin and you will be ok!

We had them last year in the early part of April. I was hoping that my the end of May they'd be gone. I always wear a full suit of 3-5mm (always cold), so that part is not a problem.

Do you remember what the avg water temp was?
