My wife and I are thinking COZ for 10 or 12 days beginning oct.
She doesnt dive..I plan on spending a week or so diving
where should we stay and who should I dive with( one who'll take me to the good spots not overcrowded..)
were looking for a nice place on a nice beach nice pool with nice location. we like kids but would rather have quiet.

Thanx in advance
I'm a chef so any good dinner suggestion welcome

There are many dive shops in Cozumel, and very competitive. I prefer Papa Hogs. The owners are from Canada and provide a real good service. As for Hotels, Many on the waterfront are going All Inclusive. There are the good and bad about them. If you are a chef, I definatly would not go All Inclusive. Some top Restaurants I prefer are:

Pepe's Grill Albino's
La Veranda Casa Denis
La Perlita Guidos
El Moro The Museum (breakfast)

There are many more to choose from. Here is a website that can help:

Hotels:

1) Stay south of town if you're a diver. This is required if you want the dive boats to pick you up from your hotel pier... this is an essential part of the Cozumel experience. I've stayed at Plaza Las Glorias many times, but they'll be closed for renovations in October. Hotel Cozumel is nice. Caribe Blu is a small hotel loved by many. If price is no option, go with El Presidente.

2) Only get an all-inclusive option if it doesn't cost you extra. There are just too many inexpensive, excellent restaurants in town. Try the Mustard Fish (Pescado Tropical) at La Choza. I eat this at least 3 times each trip. Go to the "Lobster House" for dinner. It's just north of town. Get a taxi and specify the name (don't get confused with other "lobster" spots)! It's a thatched-roof "building" on the right side of the main road as you're heading north. Step in, and you'll feel like Ginger and the Professor should be greeting you. Instead, pick your lobster from the tray on the bar, they'll weigh it for you, then you sit and order your drink. Candlelight and culinary bliss await you.

If you really want a nice beach, nice location, nice pool and have a diver and non-diver, I'd say El Presidente. Just be prepared to pay for it.

Diving:

Too many options to mention. My best advice is to enquire about the boat capacity. If they’re taking more than 8 divers, avoid it!! You want a small 6-pack boat… faster to the reef, more personalized attention, etc. Dive w/ Martin, Blue Angel, Blue Xtsea, Liquid Blue, Deep Blue and many others come to mind.

Have fun!!

We usually stay at La Ceiba, it's a good location by the international pier so there's good people watching of the cruise shippers. It has a nice beach with 2 pools and a big whirlpool, a beach restaurant that the waiters will bring food and drinks to you while your laying out. The food has always been good and has improved very years
.
I've used Blue Bubble in the past small groups, 6-8, usually 6, fast boats and good DM's especially Raul. Dive with Martin has also been highly recommended by friends, in fact I'm going to try them in September on a dive buddies advice. both wil pick you up at the hotel.
La Ceiba has a dive shop and good shore diving, airplane flats is what is called, there is a small plane that was sunk for a movie back in the '70s, it has broken up over the years just off shore and some small coral heads scattred about, good refresher dive before heading out to the reef. You can jump off the pier for easy access.
Island Photo and Video is on the property, Holly and her husband Armando are both published photographers and videographers and have a full service shop with rentals of both film and digital equipment as well as great developing. wonderful people!!!!!
The hotel caters mostly to divers so it's quiet and doesn't have very may children, some of the cruise shippers will by a day pass to the beach but again it's almost all adults or older teens. It's very clean, most of the rooms have been renovated in the past 5 years or so, nothing real fancy but everything you need, good A/C, refrigerator, balconies for drying equip., saftey deposit box by the front desk. The staff has always been great.
the location is just 2 maybe 3 miles south of town, maybe not even that far, we've walked to and from town many times.
hope the info helps, have a great trip.

I just got back recently and I dove with Blue XT Sea. They were great. I'm pretty much a newbie and Raul took really good care of me. I also stayed at Caribe Blu which has diving right in front of the hotel and also has a pool. The rooms are really affordable and clean. However, everyone staying there are divers, so your wife may or may not like that. They do have really cool hammocks "hamaca" to just lay around all day to enjoy the wonderful view.

Some excellent restaurants that we ate at were: Poncho's Backyard (International), French Quarters (Louisiana), Guido's (Italian), and Casa Denis (Mexican).

Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Dive with the same group I did while there call in advance to set it up, his name is Tony. Great group of people to dive with. Their website is http://www.cozumel-diving.net/edds/

I didn't really eat over there so I can't give you much help there, we stayed in an all-inclusive. Good food there though. Hope this helps.
