I have an OMS harness and had a few questions about it.
How to I connect my inflator hose to the harness?
Are the OMS pouches really that bad? Is it worth it to get the weight harness thing? I like the pouch because I can put my backup light and slate in it.
For single tank straps I assume that they only go through the single tank adapter and not through the holes in the wings or the back plate correct?
I have a small dive knife that I can connect to either a hose or poke holes in the nylon and screw it into the straps. Is there a recommended place for it to go? I don't really want to strap it to my leg. Currently I hooked it to one D ring and the circular ring using the hose holder thing.
Should I get some kind of weight to put on my backplate? I'll be diving with a drysuit so I'm sure I'll have to add 10-20 more pounds.

Everything bad you've heard about the no-sag pouches is true. The hardware rusts, they clutter up the front of the harness and they're just a general pain in the ass. They were the first thing I got rid of.

You're correct about the STA. The OMS plate does not have slots for an "STA-less" type of wing like the new Halcyon Pioneers.

I use a weighted STA, which removes 6 lbs from my weight belt. I also tried using the Halcyon ACB system, but have settled on just using a weight belt. It's simpler and gives me more room on the harness for a cannister light.

I tried the OMS No Sag Pocket(s) and didn't care for the bulk. They were great pockets - but too much around my waist for MY liking. I use a weight belt myself as well. Works well.

I too use a Koplin 6# weighted STA - its gets 6 additional lbs off my waist and onto my back.

If you have the webbing/BP combo - do what DIR-ers do...on your SS D-ring slider (keeper) thread a 1/8" bungee cord thru the middle of the keeper/slide, and tie a loop around the inflator hose. That will keep the hose from raising up over your shoulder out of reach...

I wouldn't poke holes thru any of my webbing/harness. That going to create a possible failure/weakness point in your webbing/harness. Personally, a knife, such as Halcyon's or OMS that fits onto your 2" waistbelt is the way to go. Its easy to reach and gets the knife off of your leg.

I think its just the basic harness, just nylon and D rings.
It looks like the one on the left here http://www.omsdive.com/backplate.html without any shoulder padding.
I didn't want to punch any holes in the webbing because of the weakness.
If I don't use their bag, what would you suggest I do for my backup light and slate?

DO you use a drysuit?

DOes it have a pocket???

This would be a solution...

YOu could also attach you backup lite to a dring on the shoulder straps, and attach with bolt snap, and bungee...

Slate could be in the pocket...

You could also get a pocket that goes on the webbing sideways, DIve RIte makes a nice one.

Many options...

Choose wisely...

I agree with LUBOLD8431,
Mount a back up light on the harness webbing as DIR-ers do it, install a pocket on your wetsuit or drysuit for wet notes, tables, slates, etc.

They will be out of the way...

I do have a drysuit, but I would need to get a pocket put onto it, what is the best location for this usually, I'm guessing somewhere on the leg would work best.
Thanks for all your help and advice.

I thought of one more question. Do you trim the straps and burn them once you have a good fit? How much extra should you leave when you do this?

I don't on my IQ Pak but on your you could.

Cut them with scissors and burn the edge with a flame. Be careful, melted nylon gets HOT and burns!

I think you want about an extra foot to allow for differant wetsuit thicknesses, etc.
