Hello everyone,

I will be heading to Costa Rica at the end of January/early February. I will along the pacific coast and I have come across multiple sailfish fishing charters. I was wondering if anybody has any experience or knows if anyone down there does sailfish photography safaris similar to Mexico. Thanks.

I'm shooting from the hip but my guess is that as long as you have money, the fishing boats might take you out. If you look at one of the better known whakeshark and sailfish snorkeling operation in Isla Mujeres in Mexico, they were and probably still are primarily a deep sea fishing charter operation. The issue that I see is that unless there is a baitball or unless they are throwing bait fish into the water for the sailfish to go after, there isn't anything to keep the sailfish "captivated", so your encounter will be fleeting at best. I've never done the Isla Mujeres sailfish - I'd like to someday - but I've heard that even if there is a baitball, there is a lot of swimming, chasing, and constant getting in and out of the boat quickly.
