I Have A Friend That Has A Naui Ow Cert And He Wants To Get Other Certs, But Can't Find A Naui Shop. Can He Get Any Of The Padi Certs Or Does He Have To Take The Padi Ow Cert.

Yes, he can get certs from other agencies without having to redo basic open water.

Unless, of course, it has been a while since he's been diving in which case a refresher course may be in order.

He can pursue any of the PADI certifications, with no need to repeat OW.

That was my concern when I was inadvertently stuck with an SSI c-card (long story....), but you can take other courses through PADI. My LDS instructor said that they (PADI) generally don't even check if you have an OW cert because they know that many come from other agencies. But yeah, your friend can definitely continue learning through PADI even with a NAUI OW cert.

thanks very much you guys have been very helpful !!!!!!!! LOVE THIS SITE ANY QUESTIONS YOU GET ANSWERS OR OPINIONS..........GREAT SITE !!!!

I don't get it... An SSI c-card is just as universally accepted as PADI and NAUI. As well as, YMCA CMAS BSAC PDIC SDI IDEA ACUC... etc. There are 'dozens' of training agencies and they all accept the validity of each others' OW certification. If you had a store give you a bad time because you had an SSI card instead of PADI, the problem is not with SSI or PADI, it's with that store.
