I'm buying my first bp/w here in the next couple of weeks and I just found out that my LDS sells OMS. I do strictly single tank diving, at least for now, so I'm considering getting the OMS 32lb wing, ss plate, and basic harness. Prior to this, it was between a DR ss plate and Oxycheq wing (those mach v's are nice) from Scubatoys OR a setup from Tobin (his plates look top-notch, but the inflater hose comes out of the middle of the wing which seem weird, although I'm sure he has a good reason).

MY PREFERENCE would be to buy from my LDS, whatever the brand, just as long as it's not junk. There are plenty of threads about how great Oxycheq and DSS are, but how about OMS? The 32lb wing looks nice, much less hokey then some of its larger wings with all their bungees.

I'm waiting to hear on price for the OMS gear, but he said his cost + 15% + shipping, which seems fair. I'm willing to pay a bit more to support my LDS. I've taken classes from them, they service my gear (only SP dealer in town), fill my tanks, etc.

I just bought the OMS SS plate with harness, the 32lb single tank wing and STA from Leisure pro two weeks ago. I have put about a dozen dives on it so far and I really like the setup. Its simple, small profile, takes some weight off my waist, and makes the tank feel like an extention of my spine. My instructor had OMS gear and I like the fact that all the parts are from the same company. See attached picture.

I also have about a dozen dives with my new OMS Setup (SS BP, hog harness, SS STA and 32# wing) and i love it. I find it very stable underwater. It got a few dives to get used to it and to learn how to vent the wing properly. Also I had to go with a shorter (20") inflator hose on my reg to accomodate the shorter corrugated hose on the wing.

I got some really good pricing from some OMS online vendors including aquatoyz.com

Cheers.

I have the 60# wing and am considering buying the 32# wing for most of the same reasons. I find the 60# wing is as well made and as tough as any other wing that I've seen.

Some people might complain that the inflator is too long, but the have different lengths available- get the one you want.

Hey D.I.E. i think that the 32# wing comes stock with the shorter hose and not the elephant trunk hoses that the bigger wings have/had :coffee:

Cheers.

I have a 30# OMS wing that I use with a single setup. It works great. I use a OMS 60# on my doubles with a SS BP. The wings are tough and trouble free.

I'm liking the feedback so far. OMS' pdf catalog mentions a 30# wing, but doesn't provide a picture. Anyone know if it is different than the 32#? A 2# variance in lift isn't very much so there must be something different about it.

Take alook at the halycon eclipse wing

I'm sure the eclipse is a nice wing, but the whole reason I'm even considering OMS is to support my LDS. Or Larry or Tobin.

I check aquatoyz.com and no 30# wing. It has to be different somehow.

To those of you using a STA: The catalog says that a STA isn't needed. How stable would it be without the STA? I'm sure this setup is going to cost more than DSS or Scubatoys, so I might need to forgo the STA for now.

I think you'd be very happy with wings from Halcyon, OMS, or DSS. If you're looking to save a few bucks and take advantage of a few of the nice DSS features, I would recommend a DSS rig. With a properly adjusted setup, there is no problem with tank instability. Tobin has built-in elastomeric supports on the wing to help position the tank correctly. For cleaning purposes post-dive, the wing separates easily from the BP/harness/tank cambands without the use of attachment hardware. The DSS BP is slightly flatter than my Halcyon BP (and other BPs I have seen), so theoretically this should be more streamlined. Also, DSS SS BPs come with elastomeric inserts which line the holes through which the harness is weaved. This design prevents slippage of the harness and eliminates the need for installing serrated keepers on the harness. IMHO, the fact that the inflator hose attaches to the top middle of the wing is really a non-issue. I think Tobin has set a very reasonable price for his full rigs. At the very least, I would play around with the rig configurator on the DSS site to find out the total cost of the BP/W setup you want. If you have any questions about wing size, Tobin will be quick to help.
