Location
Southern California...too far from the ocean
# of dives
2500 - 4999
Anyone happen to know if the current is still really strong around Sand Dollar today? We were cleaning the coral gardens on Friday and there was a swift current going from North to South and we had to hang on to the platforms to keep from getting swept away Just want to know if it's worth going tomorrow :)

The title is supposed to include "Marine world"

Don't know about the current at the exact location but currents this am a bit further south at Punta Tunich were mild South to North then swtiched to moild North to South about 2/3 the way in. Yucab (2nd dive) was running faster North to South and a bit out to the channel the first half of the dive. It was less current than the day before.

A lot of the variation in currents at the Cozumel dive sites isn't due to changes in the prevailing current in the channel but to eddy currents caused by the interaction of that prevailing current with the underwater structure of the island. These eddies move around, so the current speed and direction can change quite quickly for a given location.

Yep, and a current from north to south in that channel is assuredly an eddy. More common closer to shore and on reefs than out in the deeper channel.

Yesterday current on Cedral Wall was ripping. Report today was little
or no current.
At that time experienced. Those change rapidly.

Current this morning on Cedral Wall and Tormentos was mild and north to south. Nice, relaxing dives.

Dove Cedral this morning and the current was fairly brisk. I wouldn't call it fast but faster than normal. Second dive was San Fran. wall and it was running very mildly but to the south.

What it boils down to is that it is not possible to accurately predict what conditions will be WRT current on a Cozumel dive site even a few hours in advance.
