Hi,

I am trying to ID a diving compressor. Unfortunately it isn't here so I only have a very poor photo of it but hoping it will give enough clues.

It was originally fitted by a couple to their yacht about 10-15 years ago for refilling their tanks as they travelled and was hydraulic powered, but is in the process to being converted with the electric motor and new dryer for land based use.

Most of the visible writing is in Italian so expecting it to be an Italian brand.

Anyway, here goes...

If any of you have any clues as to who the manufacturer is, do please let me know.

Many Thanks, Julian

showing the compressor side vs. the electric motor would probably help

Yea, I know :-(

Unfortunately it's the only photo I have of it at the moment and am trying to get some more.

It is a Coltri MCH6. However, that square filter tower is not a Coltri product. From the picture, I can see you need a top for the moisture separator, pressure gauge and top for the filter housing.

And square filter separator towers have never been a good design idea as they have a tendancy to explode

After blowing up the picture to try to find the age, I could see that the filter tower was eaten through on one side. Since this was on a boat and, obviously not maintained well as evidenced by the preponderance of rust, it may not be worth spending any money on trying to refurbish it ... and this coming from a guy that sells parts for refurbishing them. Right off the bat I can see that the filter housing needs replacement and that probably means the separator housing also needs replacement. There is also no priority valve so it is likely that it comes with an old style valveless filler. The motor looks to be too large and the fan end looks like it is open so you would have to make custom shrouds to protect the motor fan and the compressor fan belt and pulleys. Add to that sandblasting the base and shrouds and painting all the steel and you have a TON of work ahead of you. All that done, we STILL have not addressed the inside of the compressor. If it is in half as bad of a condition as the outside, it might end up being a money pit. So, before you order a bunch of parts from me (or any other Coltri person), just note that that same model, only brand new, is only $2900 retail.
