Hello everyone,

We are looking for any feedback on the compact dive-log offered by the UK business "dive-log.com". Just returned from our first real diving experience out of the US and due to the amount of equipment we haul we need to make some adjustments. We are looking into reducing the size of our traditional dive binder and found this compact system on the net. Since I prefer to carry my documents along rather than leave them to the fate of the luggage gnomes, this looks like it would work, however, still looking for someone who may have, or is currently using their system. The prices is US dollars is very competitive with the binders located in the states. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
JTDivers

I don't see any physical log at that site, just some on-line thing -which would be compact. ;)
But I'd guess if it's called a "system" it's still bigger than you need.

You don't need binders or even anything commercial. I find the most compact thing is to make my own log pages that has spaces for what I use and not for what I don't. I print a bunch of pages, cut them up, and sew them into booklets. My log is about 4x4x.25 inches and holds many dives. I know other people do similar things.

Do you mean this log book? Dive-Logs.com - Dive Logs compact scuba binder

It depends on how I feel on the day I pack in whether or not I bring my 'regular' log. Sometimes I just throw a bunch of blank pages in a ziploc and go on vacation. That way, I don't have to worry about the space or about losing my logbook.

Are you looking to replace your complete log book or just use this compact one when you go on vacation? Are the sheets the same size? How will you store them when the books become full? Depending where I go and how many dives I do, I might buy one of the tourist log books and use that. When I get home, I put some holes in it and put it in my regular dive book. I can easily reference the vacation dives and don't waste my more expensive sheets on many dives per day.

Thanks for the responses. Let me give you some background on what we currently have. The Mrs and I were certified through a local "PADI" shop so we have the traditional blue "PADI" divers and training record handbooks. We have them both crammed into a black zippered binder that your will find at any dive shop. Now, since there is a three ringed binder spine, I found it necessary to cram in several plastic inserts to hold the various dive cards, membership cards, DAN cards, along with dive tables misc maps, pens, copies of IDs, DAN handbook......blah, blah, blah. I think you probably get the ugly picture. In essence, we have a small black binder busting at the seams ready to explode threatening to injure anyone standing within the three foot blast area and weighing in at about 3 pounds. (at least that is what it feels like). When we arrived at the resort we were diving at last month and after lugging this thing around in my carry-on, half way around the globe I discovered that I had only two blank pages at the beginning of a two week dive vacation. I then had to purchase one of the small resort dive logs to log all of our dives thus meaning yet another item to cram into the exploding binder. So, enough is enough and we need to rethink our strategy on logging our dives. We are looking for a smaller package to log the data hoping to meet some where in the middle. We figure that our current binder can sit on the shelf in the office collect dust as well as give us a place to store the full log books. I know that the whole log book thing is a formality just in case we get called on our history at some dive operation so that is why we found the UK's business compact dive-log sounded intriguing.

I have their custom (middle) sized one, made up myself with their dive log page maker and it holds a lot of data, and the pages have room to write .. Although I think that the personal organizer sized (small) one would be the best for trips and such.
Mine has become a place for the signatures of the people (ScubaBoarders) I've dived with.
I also had them make a bunch of custom dive tags to give to ScubaBoarders that came out here to a get together we had, and just for fun, I had one of their log book stamps made from a custom design I sent them, they worked with me till I got just what I wanted, at a good price .. good company

Thanks D_B,

That is what we are looking for... I am glad that you responded since you actually have used the products and have dealt with the company. It is reassuring since they are the other side of the globe. If you don't mind me asking, what was the turn around time it took from your first contact and final product in hand?

Thanks again,

Jamie and Trevor

Looking back, I have 5 e/mails .. Ordered late Sunday night, 1st e/mail reply on Monday going over design of stamp, suggestions on design with 4 more over the next couple of days, with the order going out Friday, and I think less than a week later I had my stamp, logbook, and gear tags
.. Mike was most helpfully in making suggestions on the image I sent and finalizing my stamp, it looks very detailed and high quality .. .. that pic above is the drawing of the stamp scaled down to it's true size of 25mm (1") and the stamps look just like that
.. The gear tags are durable, high quality, and look great .. and I got them when they had a two for one sale ... It was great fun passing them out to everyone :)

I have the compact binder with a combination of the standard and nature computer focused nitrox pages. I also have some of the card inserts.

I can't recommend them highly enough. The quality of the product is excellent, and their turnaround time is incredibly fast.

I now use a little (3x5x1/2") diary-like notebook. Each page is narrowly lined and I can get 4-8 dives per page, depending on what was interesting about the dive. But, I seldom record anything except what was novel or interesting. Many dives are simply when and where.

GREAT NEWS!

That was what we were looking for. I really like the whole concept of the package as well as the site. I placed an order for my self and the Mrs. today for a "starter kit" with some extras needed. I have a mix of the regular and water resistant paper. Per the web site they claim that you can not use the stamp due to the water resistance properties. I have stamped the PADI pages with no problems and they are also water resistant. We will see when they get here. I am going to order a custom stamp (really like the idea, especially for those we meet on our dives) and the info tags, but this is after I give it some thought on a logo. D_B, Did you get the tags for your gear or to hand out? I was messing around on the design site for a while, ssooooo many choices!!!!!
