What is the coldest water you have ever dived in and did you experience any equipment problems/malfunctions? Thanks!
Norm

Norm,

I would stay the coldest time would have been when we had to cut away 4 feet of ICE because our hole that we dug the day before froze over during the night and we had to re-dig it, all equipment performed as desired ...

=-)

Yew mean on purpose? About 50 degrees, I think. By accident through the ice.

The coldest water I ever dove in was about 34F. Air temp wasn't much higher. It was December 2nd, 1991: my IE and I didn't have a choice.

To keep my hands & head warm I had a thermos of hot water to pour into my hood & gloves. The good news was that those were the only parts of me that got wet, 'cuz I was diving dry. (And boy was I ever glad!!!)

My Sherwood Blizzard Reg handled it all in stride.

Now, that I have a little peace and quiet, I'd just like to say that the only reason I haven't been in colder water is because there isn't any around here. So yeah, maybe we should have our heads checked. LOL

I *preferred* cold water diving. Just that at one point I didn't have a choice. If you live in Canada, esp in the Great Lakes area, the only way to get a decent dive season is to dive dry and just go for it.

That being said, I *DO NOT* ice dive. The only overhead environment involving ice for THIS diver is holding a glass of CC on the rocks over my head while indoors.

BTW, currently I live in GA, so cold water for me at this piont is the Gulf of Mexico during Spring/Fall and FL Springs...
