Trying to mount my Sealife SL980 video light on top of my housing- any ideas for a cold shoe/loc-line adapter? Hate to spend $50 for something that can't cost more than a buck or two to manufacture...

If you are a little handy, they are pretty easy to make. You can take one segment of your loc-line. Trim the end you want to attach to the cold shoe, add this adapter: Amazon.com: HDE ® 1/4"- 20 Tripod Screw to Hot Shoe Adapter: Camera & Photo with a stainless washer and a locking nut. I've made a couple of them and they work well and are pretty stable. Much better to spend $3 and a little time than $50.

Once you have the $2.00 cold shoe adapter (free 2 day shipping if you can buy it on prime) you'll need a loc-line base that will accept the 1/4x20 screw. Loc-Line 60533 Fixed Mount The hardest part is the locline strobe mount. The cheapest one I found was $19.95. You can use the locline "L" adapter and drill it for a bigger screw, then put a spacer in the strobe base, but it's kind of a chickenpoop set-up. Last time, I just googled around and found a $39.95 ready made loc-line set-up. Intova sells a whole "mini arm" for $19.95 Intova Mini Flex Arm for Intova SP1 Sport HD Camera at LeisurePro but it doesn't look like genuine loc-line and may not match up with the loc-line base. If it does, you could add it to your $2.00 cold shoe mount and be in business for $22.

Thanks, guys- didn't think about a tripod mount adapter. That'll work perfectly, and I ordered another flat base as mine is getting a little loose.
