Hello all,

My girlfriend and I are thinking of doing a liveaboard to Cocos over the Christmas holidays 2013. Some questions.

1) Is Dec/Jan a good time to dive Cocos? I was in the Galapagos in May 2012 and it was not great. The visibility was poor and I saw more shadows than big life on half the dives.
2) Which liveaboard? Looking for the best service! Cost is always a factor but I am willing to pay the dollars to ensure the best possible experience.

much obliged,

JK

My husband I dived at the Cocos in September 2012. We landed just after the big earthquake hit and because of that the vis was not as good as it normally is. The crew all said the vis was not as great, but it didn't stop us from seeing INSANE things! My husband I were thinking of visiting the Galapagos next - who did you go with?

If you do go to the Cocos I would highly recommend Undersea Hunter (Welcome to the Undersea Hunter Group, Cocos Island) and try to get on the same boat as Manuel (if he is working). I saw two other dive companies out there, one boat looked very, very old and the other boat kept forgetting divers in the water (not good!) I won't name them, but I would personally suggest the Undersea Hunter as the best one to go with. Manuel is a brilliant dive master and will complete the trip. USH is probably the most expensive trip to get out there, but you get what you pay for, and I would say 100% to go with them :)

Lucy

I was also at Cocos in Sept 2012 & had the same experience of poor viz - or for a UK diver, absolutely brilliant viz!

Who did you book with?

We originally tried to book USH group, but found it so difficult that we gave up & booked with Wind Dancer - who were excellent.

We are thinking of returning in 2014 & would like to try USH - hence I would be grateful for any booking tips that you have.

Cheers

Much obliged! I went on the Humboldt Explorer. It was OK. For the price, it was better than OK. I will be returning in July 2014 on the Galapagos Sky.

Hi John,

I tend not to book through travel agents - I like to go straight to the source! So I booked directly with the USH group. My contact is Lisa, and feel free to mention my name if you do get in touch as she is very good and knows her customers all by name. Her contact details are: lisa@underseahunter.com

Best of luck with booking the trip and have a wonderful time when you go! :)
