Does anyone have an opinion on the Cocolobo hotel in Roatan? I dive, my sister does not (afraid of the ocean). I would be up for paying, but she is a teacher, so we're on a budget. We would like to be by nightlife, so I am thinking west end. Thougths?
:D

I just got home a few days ago after staying at Cocolobo for a week. I enjoyed it very much but was not interested in nightlife. It has a great unobstucted view of the water but is on iron shore with no beach. It is only a 5 to 10 minute walk to West End and the night life but is far enough away so that you do not hear the bars at night. Bring a flashlight for the walk back at night. The rooms are new and nice. There are no screens on the windows or sliding doors so I used the A/C in the evenings. There are no generators installed yet to deal with the rolling power outages of Roatan but I was told that they have been ordered and are on the way from Miami. They should be installed in a month. The breakfasts were also good. I was very happy with my choice of Cocolobo.

Thanks Harro10! Which operator did you dive with?

I used Coconut Tree Divers in West End. I did the two tank advanced morning dives and the 2:30 PM single tank afternoon dive. I also dove Mary's Place and the Prince Albert wreck on the south side of the island with Subway Water Sports one day. Both dive ops were very good.

I don't know about Cocolobo, but Posada Arco Iris hotel is relatively inexpensive and right ont the edge of the West End. We have stayed there on our last three trips.

Diving: Coconut Tree is a great dive operation!
