Well, I simply don't like AI computers that is a very good deal for one.
Also, be warned, many people have some very strong feeling about Cochrans but if you didn't like it, I'd bet you could turn it around on Ebay for quite a bit more.

I think it's both, but that goes for just about every peice of gear out there. For every peice of gear somone hates, somone else out there loves it.

I spent a while researching the Gemini recently. From what I gathered on the net, they seem to be much more reliable than the older cochran AI units, and they look like great computers. I was going to get a new one, but decided against it because I had a Nemesis 2 (purchased used) that was working fine, then suddenly quit. I had only had it for a few months. All of the frustrated cochran owner's posts I'd read suddenly came to life, and I understood how they felt. I was going to sell it for parts but I still have it. I pull it out once in a while and bang on it with a quarter to try to get it going again, but no luck.
if I was looking at a used cochran I'd check the battery compartments for any corrosion (don't breathe the gas (hydrogen?), it made me woosy), and pass if you notice any. Even though the batt compartments are watertight (from the internals of the TU, too) I think many of the cochrans flooded these compartments then developed corrosion problems on the contacts, but this is just a guess (I'm pretty certain it happened to mine). This should be really easy to fix but I have tried and tried and can't make it go. Also, the TU has a "high pressure transducer" that I know has failed for a few folks. You may want to ask if you can hook it up to your gear and dive it to check it out. The cochrans are great computers and the taclite is neat. $200 is a great deal, even if it's just the basic air model. You could probably sell it on ebay for about 3x that.

Yep but certain peices of gear really get people in a boil - split fins, AirII's and bungeed wings come to mind.JcoldwaterIL:
No one has a really strong opinion on Aqualung regulators for example.. you won't see anyone chime in telling you that it's going to kill you
well, i boughtit and it turned out to be the plus model. It came with extra straps, batteries and and waterproof case for $200. Is this computer outdated?? Did I just buy a computer that I will have to ditch in 6 months to a year. I am not going to do any tech diving in the next 5 years that I know of.

Oh, I forgot they made the Gemini +, I just assumed it was the new one. But if it works, IMO, you have a good computer, and that's a fair to good price. Here is a link to the manual

I don't know why they gave such comfusing names. Why would they have the Gemini +, then introduce a Gemini a few years later??? I think they did the same with the Commander line; Commander, then the Commander +, then the Cochran Commander.
If I remember, the newer Gemini has 16 tissue compartments vs. 12 on the G+. I also think the newer Gemini handles up to 100% O2 and trimix and the G+ up to 50% fo2, but I don't really recall.
I thought the Nemesis IIA was great when it worked, and it's older than the G+. Try it out and see.
