I work aboard a vessel that has a camera mounted in the hull which allows us to view the props. It is housed in a glass dome that allows the camera to rotate 360 deg.
My problem is keeping the dome clean, the rate of barnacle growth is incredible so its not just a case of wiping it clean, I also do not want to scratch the lens whilst cleaning.
The boat stays in the water permanently so I cant coat it with anything to prevent growth.
Does anyone have a product or method that could be used to keep the lens clean or any advise in this regard.
Thanks

Do you know anyone who operates/works on a glass-bottomed tour boat? Perhaps you could find out what they use on the wet side of the glass.

I wonder if there's anything that could be done from inside the lens. Like installing a strong UV light to sterilize the outside of the lens or keeping the lens at a relatively high temperature with a heater.

As the delicate lens is an issue. Your only solution and maintenance of the camera is to ensure that it's cleaned on a daily, weekly bases. Glass bottom boats are cleaned on a daily bases. As customers pay to things very clear.

For now there is isn't anything that you can to not clean as required. Anything exposed to the underwater world must be cleaned on demand or it will get a build up algae, bacterias from currents.

Its part of the Job!!!! have fun out of it either way.
