Hello Jg1,
Using a cotton swap and a small amount of distilled white vinegar, gently rub over the metal contact. This may take a bit of time to remove any corrosion from the contacts. Rinse the vinegar from the contacts with fresh water. When the contacts are dry, finish polishing them with the end of an eraser.
