Join us Thursday, October 20th for our monthly meeting. The meeting officially starts at 7:30 pm, but people begin to arrive - ordering drinks, food & socializing between 6:30 - 7:00 pm.

Our speaker will be from NOAA's Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. Kelly Drinnen or Shelley Dupuis will update us on the mysterious mass mortality event at the Flower Garden's East Bank and let us know the status of lionfish in the Sanctuary plus get us in the know about these reefs that are located about 100 miles off Texas' shore.

We're so lucky to have these coral reefs so close.

The smooth trunkfish (inset) is a fish found on reefs throughout the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. But, only in Flower Garden Banks NMS will you find this bright yellow variant. DNA analysis tells us that it's the same fish, but we don't know what causes the color difference.
