Hi Guys,

I'm writing this article since I've just helped a member decide between a SLX and a TL50.

Here's the SLX: Nocturnal Lights SLX LED dive light - shop, buy, or review

Here's the TL50: Nocturnal Lights TL50 Dive Light for technical diving

First of all, the difference between the SLX and the TL50 is quite significant even though they're both hand mounted dive light. If you want a compact light that can give you a very long burn time and not ever have to worry about maintaining the battery or taking care of the light, you should go with the SLX. With the SLX you will never have to worry about battery maintenance and charges because it uses AA batteries. The burn time on this baby is at least 4.5 hours and can last up to 12 hours so you can go on a whole week of diving without having to replace your batteries. The light comes with a lantern style handle but the technical package comes with a hand mount which allows you to mount the light on the back of your hand. Compared to most technical dive lights it's a bit more versatile because you dont' need to mount any battery canisters.

The biggest difference between this and the SLX is the light output where the TL50 is capable of outputting A LOT of light, especially with the 50w bulb.
The TL50 on the other hand, offers burn time between 45 minutes to 120 minutes but the amount of light is significantly brighter than the SLX. While the SLX offers enough light for 90% of the divers, some people tend to want a powerful light that can really light up the ocean. Using a rechargeable battery pack, you will need to recharge your light before every trip and you would have to make sure that your dives do not exceed the burn time. We also offer a TL50 Extreme model for those who desire maximum brightness and a longer burn time.
