I will say she is brave, i know she understands the risks better than most on radiation exposure, but even so!!! I think its a bit much to just get some quiet time in on your bike!

Good site with plenty of info and pictures of what happened. Its hard to believe it was so recent, seems like ages ago 4/25/86 - near enough 18 years ago.

What an incredible story! I think that website should get an award. It was abosolutely riviting to see.
Can you imagine, Everything you know, own, everyone you love, Gone? Torn to shreds, Everything you ever thought of as normal, changed in just a single day. It's a sombering thought. God bless all of those folks who endured, suffered, died, and survived through mankinds single most terrible event in the history of the world.

I would be more concerned about contamination in the dust and particulate in the area than the background radiation. For example, alpha radiation is extremely damaging, but can be stopped by a piece of paper. If you inhale an Alpha source, you won't be feeling too good even though you can touch it with literally no damage.

This is one incredible collection of photos. God bless her soul for putting this site together. She is one brave woman.

Seen that website a couple of weeks back. Yes it is a very incredible collection of pictures. But I would try to find some other place if I wanted some quiet time on my bike.

I do remember it very well. I was only something like 500 km away from Charnobyl. Polish Communistic authorities kept this information as top qualified - censorship - for several days. But when it was too serious they asked all Poles to drink some horrible staff - it was suppose to prevent us.
Now scientists in Poland are absolutely convinced that a very high rate of cancer here is one of the results of Charnobyl.

Remember also that we avoided a similar fate at Three Mile Island mostly by luck, and a little by a somewhat safer reactor design.

Certainly does make one think about where we should go with regard to future energy sources. Here in Ontario the government is about to start trying to sell the population on a few more CANDU reactors. I'd like to think they are safer but with people flying jets into things one would really want to think twice before building anymore potential 'targets'.
