Cheap, quiet place to snorkel in West End, Roatan?

Before we head over to dive in Utila, we are hoping to spend a 2 days on Roatan to do some snorkeling (for a non-diver)d. Is there a cheap, quiet place on or near the water where one can just carry fins and mask down to the water and check things out?

Hi there please look at Guava Grove. A small water view resort with a swim-up pool bar and restaurant that offer queen rooms complete with kitchenettes and private baths for $35/night or $200/week. Located 3 minutes by car to west end and directly across from Sandy Bay marine park for amazing snorkelling!

Cocolobo has a fantastic location with direct entry over the iron shore to very good snorkelling.

Take a look at Chilies, the Dolphin Hotel, or our cabins which range from $20/ night to $45/ night. These are all very close to the water, about 30 seconds walking real slow. If you don't have your own snorkel gear, it can be rented from the marine park for 5 bucks a day. As to where to go, try Half Moon Bay, here in West-End. That's where we do our confined water training. This week my students saw a seahorse, permit, a stingray, banded coral shrimp among other critters. This was all in about six feet of water. If you snorkel to the right and left of the bay, you will see plenty more. You may even find Stanley Submarine's first vessel which he sank there.

I would also suggest heading over to West-Bay where it is absolutely beautiful. If you walk down to the end of the beach you will see all kinds of stuff while snorkeling around the dive site, Black Rock. You can walk to West-Bay or take a water taxi for about 50 Lempiras.

Go to Taviana Beach(now called West Bay Beach), is a free public beach with snorkeling 2nd to none......Head out to the Black Rock, unbelievable shallow diving & snorkeling.....google it & you'll see what I'm talking about(my next trip to Roatan will be #26---we just sold our house on the north side last fall, had it since '94---trust me)....
