I am going to do my best to be there in October. Was looking for a quick trip early July when I found that price, I looked again this morning and it was back up to $656.

What's a decent price to Cozumel from Dallas?

You can find better prices in the Summer, when Sun Country flies direct from DFW to Cozumel. Sun Country only flies from Dallas into Cozumel from June through mid-August, and only 4 days each week, but I found a RT fare from June 30-July 7 for $308. BUT Sun Country charges for EVERY Checked bag, so if you are going to check bags, you need to add those charges each way (I think it's $25 each way for first bag, $35 for second bag). American flies direct from DFW to Cozumel year round, but is usually from $550-$650 RT. You can often do a bit better (maybe a shade under $500 RT) flying United, but you'll have to change planes in Houston and hope you make your connection, meaning slogging through Customs and Immigration in Houston on the way back (which is a pain - IMO, Houston Intercontinental is not nearly as efficient as DFW for customs and immigration).

The bag drag from Cancun Airport to Cozumel is really not bad - ADO Bus from Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen, then Ferry to Cozumel, adding about 2 hours to travel time - and you can often find much better prices flying into Cancun. Southwest flies from Houston Hobby into Cancun, so you can book from Dallas Love to Cancun, and do the bag drag, and if you fly Southwest, you get 2 bags checked free (a real bonus if you are bringing your own dive gear). Depending on departure dates, you can find RT fares from Dallas to Cancun on Southwest for about $400; no bag fees, but add about $40 RT for the bus/ferry from Cancun Airport to Cozumel.

American charges $25 per bag too unless you fly BC or have elite status.

I think from DFW to CZM anything under $500 is good and under 300 is great. I did the Sun Country flight last July without issue. No different service than American.

I found flights connecting through cancun for $400 in May. Adds about 2-4 hours connection time though

AA nonstop is showing up as $780.

Should I take the cancun layover?

Should I take the cancun layover?

2-4 hours waiting in the Cancun Airport for a 15 minute flight to Cozumel? If it were me, I'd forget the flights to Cozumel, get off in Cancun, take the ADO Bus from the Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen, then the Ferry to Cozumel. And have a Margarita at Senor Frogs in PDC while waiting for the next Ferry. Then you get off the Ferry in Cozumel and you can walk to your hotel if you are staying downtown, or just grab a Taxi - no need to hassle with the Airport Shuttle vans.

What does a "cancun layover" mean? Please list flights including times, city, airline.

I'm with Diverdan.... In 2 hours you can be checking into your hotel for about $20 each way. The busses are new and air conditioned and rarely packed to the limit. The ferry is a block away from the bus station and as long as it's not stupid rough is an enjoyable ride with a beer or 2.

Good luck, safe travels, hug a Cowfish for me!
