OK, so one of my hoses going to my second stage the outside rubber layer is seporated from the crimped on end where it screws into the first state. MY LDS said it is OK for now, that the outside is just for protection, that the inside layer is what holds the air and that mine is still OK. Well i would like to change the hose before it breaks while i am diving.

so if i pick up a hose.. is there anything special besides just unscrewing it from the first and second stage and screwing in the new? Any special steps or precausions i should take? or should i just have my LDS do it?

thanks,

You should be able to do it with no problem.

Be sure that you don't OVERTIGHTEN the couplings. Overtightening can cause a rupture in the "O" ring, or, at worst, strip the threads.

What tool(s) does one use to tighten the hoses? Is there a specialty tool? My scubapro 2nd stage regulators have a notched gear like surface. Not wanting to damage the tooling I used a channel locks which I wrapped in an old rubber mouse pad.

I use box wrenches. I am always rearranging hoses to move my 'puter and various gauges around.

so its basically just unsrewing the old and re-screwing in the new hose?

thanks,

Yes. Just be a little careful so nothing gets broken or damaged.
