Hi

I am thinking of diving one or two cenotes in Mexico next year.

Above all else I want to stay safe! I will base myself in Tulum, Mexico. I want to use a company with a good reputation. Is there anywhere where I can get a good rundown and recommendations of dive shops in the area?

In addition to researching operators before I arrive I would check the condition of the equipment offered and try to assess the professionalism of the company and the guide. However, with limited time, if I have to abandon a particular dive shop due to uneasiness, I may not have time make alternate arrangements.

I understand the rules state that 60 yards into cavern is the maximum and that daylight should be visible at all times. Therefore would it be prudent to call off the dive if either of these conditions are breached. Are sign boards indicating distance into cavern located in all cenotes?

Is there anything else I should consider?

Thanks

All the cenotes I dived as a tourist have tourist lines which were in the cavern zone. Unless you come over all "done thousands of dives and have navigated the length of the Markgraf on the inside" I doubt you will be taken away from those lines.

I really enjoyed diving the cenotes.

I live in Tulum and I think that the first thing I will do is checking the guide has the full cave diver card. All cenotes here have lines and in cavern they have not jumps as in caves, they are safe. In some cenotes you can not see the daylight all the time, so I recommend you to talk about this with the guide.
If we can help you in something else, let us know
