I'm trying to plan a dive holiday in the middle of August, and Spirit Air has a great deal out of NYC.
For those of you in the know- what is the likelihood that the week spent in the Caymans will be a total bust, considering the onset of hurricane season?
I'd love to go, but if it's guaranteed that it will rain buckets in mid-August, perhaps I'll go to Bonaire or Cabo San Lucas instead, and aim for the Cayman Islands another time.
Any guidance in this regard would be appreciated.

~47% chance of bust due to hurricanes. Rain shouldn't stop you from diving, unless it's blowing sideways.

I live in Florida, and I've experienced hurricane after hurricane for the last two years. Personally, I would go to the Caymans in August, and I would get travel insurance if possible.

I'm going in Sept. WITH TRAVEL INSURANCE

I have been to Grand Cayman in July and Aug, Hurrican Charlie was blowing threw 2005 and I'll say we New Yorkers have seen worse Thunder storms here,Charlie was a pussy cat. However hurrican Ivan hit the Island the next month. I have seen it rain for about an hour then stop, Ive seen it rain all day. I say book your time with the Caymans and have fun diving.!!!! I lived there for 5 years, by your logic we would have had a hurricane every 9 weeks or so during each hurricane season, didn't happen...

The diving is great in Aug, go and have fun.

we are going to GC aug 8-15. We've done aug/sept trips to GC several times. Knock on wood, we've never had a serious weather problem and the diving has been fantastic.
