My bride is doing her IDC with Ash as we "speak". Since they are only about 1/2 way done, it's neither wise nor appropriate for me to comment at this juncture. More next week.

Ash is quite good. My bride reports that he manages to be both demanding and positive with his students. He and I spent a bit of time chatting over the last week or so. Anyone who’s met me can tell you that if he's willing and able to put up with talking to a PITA like me, he can't be all bad.

If I ever decide to change focus from diving for fun to diving for tips, I would not hesitate to invest my time and money with Ash and CDC.

McKnight top instructor

Ash McKnight of Go Pro Diving and Cayman Diving College has been honored again by the Professional Association of Dive Instructors.

The course director is only one of 50 course directors worldwide recognized by PADI to receive a platinum award at this years Diving Equipment and Marketing Association show. For the second consecutive year, Ash has received this award which he said was an endorsement to the experience and commitment that he and his staff have towards professional dive training.

“We’ve been putting a lot of effort in expanding our instructors training, so it’s finally starting to pay off,” said Mr McKnight, who has been an instructor for 20 years and a course director for the last decade.

Memorable times
Over the years, he’s seen many memorable courses, he noted.

“The most memorable instructors class was last year when we started to cross market with surfing being introduced into our courses. We had six candidates all in their early twenties. Between diving, ocean surfing, using the surf wave at Black Pearl surf park and all of the socializing the energy that was with this group had was amazing.

“Being a PADI Course director has lead me to be able to travel some as well. I’ve conducted Instructor training here, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and I even do a cold water IDC in Pennsylvania.”
Mr. McKnight is a fan of Cayman and added that there are some definite reasons why people are keen to come and dive here.

“I think the fact that we have easy access and a variety of dive sites is likely one of the most stand out products. I also believe that people do want to come to a clean, modern and safe destination that has easy flights to get here.”

I think Ash is a great course director and an all around nice guy and when I was around he ran a very good business. Keep in mind though, that for an "Advanced to instructor" deal he won't be your only instructor I am sure. You will however be insured a good IDC.
