Does anyone know of a cave diving fatality in the midwest in the past month. I thought I might know one of the participants but I have been unable to find any details.

That could be it, I am curious who the other divers were and whether this was a class or not.

"all divers are required to check into the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department before and after their dive, and that all divers must be certified cave divers before diving at the Roubidoux Spring Cave. Wibracht was certified as required."

Doesn't look like it was a class. Why would that matter?

"As they continued in their ascension, Wibracht was forced to share a tank. And some point, Wibracht lost contact with his partners."
I'm just wondering how can you loose a buddy who's OOA and sharing air with you? Surely you check on them quite often??? Watch their light beam if nothing else?

I wondered this myself. There were several inconsistancies in the story but from what I can tell there were several safty factors not followed, i.e. rule of thrids, proper OOA proceedure, etc.

I know this is resurrecting an old thread, but, I just watched a show called No Opprotunity Wasted. It featured the wife and two daughters of Steven Wibracht. All that was mentioned was that he died in a cave diving accident. They opted to scatter his ashes in the ocean off of Kaui.
