Most people prefer the buoyancy characteristics of the Luxfer branded al80s. Other then that, the Catalina is a fine tank. However, you should ask your dive shop for a price on al80s because after shipping it will probably equal out about the same. Furthermore, when you go in to get it filled you may be charged for another visual because the tank will most likely be empty. Also, many shops will throw your first few fills in for free when you buy one from them so its at least worth a call to get a price.

Like WeldonDowd mentions, I'd check with your local shop. Let them know you were looking at tanks online and thought you'd come by to see what you'd be looking at if bought there in the store. They can't match/beat the price if they don't know you are looking. In the end I think you'll be happier if it works out with the shop you'll dive with anyhow.

That is only for bottles that will be slung (as in a deco bottle). If you are putting them on your back it makes no difference.

The price is descent enough especially with free shipping (WeldonDowd missed that). But I do agree, check with your local shop. They may not be able to beat the price directly but they may be able to offer 10 free fills which in the end could save you some money and make the shop a happy customer.

BTW anymore I am willing to spend a little extra to support a local business. Shopping on line may save me some coin but the local shop will save me when I need an immediate fix for something.

Alleight, I just looked what I paid for an al80 from a dive shop around me. $160 with three nitrox fills. So if a fill is around $12, that makes it about the same as ordering this tank. So again, this eBay tank is a good deal, but your dive shop may be able to do the same in the end.

If you get a Catalina AL80, get it unpainted, if possible. Get the natural (mottled gray) or brushed (shiny!) finish. Paint doesn't like to stick on 'em anyway. I personally like Catalinas and prefer them over Luxfer, but that's just my opinion. I may get one of these myself, though Heaven knows I am up to my eyeballs in tanks around here!
