DM'd a boat to Catalina last weekend and was able to get in a little bottom time myself. HC-7 was stuck in auto-white balance mode (argh - I know how you must feel Dr. Bill) so a majority of the shots were useless - but I was still able to get some ok close-up footage (with HID lights). Here's the video (1:30 13MB)

very nice! Which housing are you using? Do you ever use a red filter? I am thinking of moving up to HD maybe next year and I doubt I will be able to get lights too. So that means I would be shooting with only red filter... anyone using the HC-7 without lights? Comments?

Thanks Rob. I have the Gates housing (w/WB option), and I really like it. I think the HC-7 does really good without lights (and using red filter unless I'm within 15' or so) as long as you are using manual white balance. All of my wide angle footage is shot without lights. I shoot close-up/macro about 50/50 with lights, though trying to use them more as the colors are just amazing if you can get exposure right.
