I was thinking about getting this watch as a backup depth gauge/timer/compass. I looked at it in the store but couldn't dive with it, so I wanted to see if anyone has it or if they recommend it or not. Anyone?

One of my dive friends has a watch with compass, but it's not the same model. It seems to work well for him.

The problem I have noticed, and this may not be an issue for other users, is that he has a a harder time following a compass heading because of two things:

1. There is no clear lubber line to align your body with. You need to work a little harder to keep your watch aligned with your axis of motion.

2. He will tend to over-correct for course changes because the electronic compass "updates" in digital style... in sudden but regularly-spaced updates. For new compass users, it's may be easier to watch a conventional rotating analog compass than to try to understand the changing trends in numbers on a screen. Maybe hard to tell how fast you are turning until you are used to the update speed of the display.

Again, the thing seems to work perfectly well. I've just seen him reacting to it differently than the average reaction to learning an analog compass.
