Hi everybody!!

Me and my girlfriend planning to join a group on trip to Cozumel in Casa Del Mar Hotel. We are suppose to dive with the dive charters of the hotel..I think it's Del Mar Aquatics..

It's our first trip ever so any comments, tips or opinions about diving, dining or whatever you feels like is going to be very well appriciated!

Thanx for your Help everyone!!

The hotel is great. Have stayed there 5 times. If you get put in a room facing the tennis courts/parking lot, complain. You can generally get moved to garden/ocean view in a day or so. Every time I go there I go through this dance. Put us in a back room; then we complain and get moved. Good bar, good breakfast, free computer with high speed internet in lobby(not for web browsing, its for email use). Friendly service.

Del Mar Aquatics. Used to dive with them. Short dive time, no snacks. I would use another operator. Know its convenient but IMHO other operators are better.

Ditto on what leiserom said about asking for an "ocean" view room. If you look out the window at juuust the right angle between the palm trees you can see the water. :D And the ocean view rooms have a balcony to hang you stuff on to dry.

I've stayed there 3 or 4 times (last time was last June) and would again. Fairly inexpensive, rooms were clean and it's a short walk across the street to the dock. Although one weekend we had problems with the hot water, but that was a few years ago and the only time. I believe they changed owners since then. Just be aware that there is no elevator, if you're on the second or third floor you'll have to take the stairs, but that hasn't been a problem for me.

Search this forum for dive ops. Caballito del Caribe is good, Papa Hogs, Blue Bubble, Scuba with Alison, Blue XT Sea, etc. All the dive ops. will pick you up at the hotel dock.

As for dining, click here and also be sure to click on James Goddard's link he posted in that thread.

You're gonna have fuuuun.

Oh, and renting a car and taking a drive around the island is a must do.

'Stayed their twice - AWESOME included full breakfast in open air restaurant pool side (eat well, skip lunch!). Definitely rent a car (I rented an open Jeep for my family of 5) - 'had a great excursion around other side of island, hitting the ruins toward the end of the drive. Eating in town for dinner is best in Mexico IMHO. I dove Papa Hogs & especially liked having no more than 8 divers per trip.

Well, the hotel is okay. Can't imagine why the others like it so much, but it's okay. Rather stay there, inexpensive and close to town, than one of the plus, expensive hotels too far south. Go to the department store and buy a foam mattress pad, as the beds are hard all over Coz.

I did not like the hotel dive shop at all - mostly because of their boats. Much too crowed with the tanks in the middle. You didn't say if you were flexible on that, though? If you're alread booked with them as part of a package, they're okay. Take a lock so you can leave your gear in a locker.
