It's a fine point but Casa Calico is really in Mangrove Bight - not the West End. Probably 3/4's of a mile away We rented a house on the east end of Half Moon Bay and it was a 5-10 min. walk to town, The entrance to Casa Calico was maybe a 1/4 mile farther down the road -we drove by once. (b4 you ask, the house I rented was $1500/wk) There's nothing in Mangrove Bight except houses/resorts.
Can you get the Calico house for 3mos? it's more of a weekly rental place afaik.
Here's some options closer in town. They're close to but not on the water. About the same $$ as Casa Calico since they're not on the water.
West End vacation rental by owner: New, Two-Bedroom Condo with Amazing Ocean Views in West End
West End vacation rental by owner: 2 bedroom Condominium rental that sleeps 6. Spacious West End Condo
West End vacation rental by owner: Spacious, 2 BR House in West End, Last Minute Deals
Note when you see "air-cooled" on some of the other listings that means shutters and no A/C. It can get a little buggy - and
humid at times there. We would've been miserable sleeping at night w/o AC - in May.
The two "supermarkets" in the West End are Woody's and at Coconut Tree resort. The CT store is mostly beverages with two aisles of staples. They had milk, bread, snacks etc. - staples for the tourists staying nearby. Maybe a little produce, can't recall. Lots of alcohol.
Woody's is like a big 7-11 - lots of drygoods with a row of coolers in the back. I believe they had fruits/vegetables also - I was only in there once.
They're 100' apart, the Coconut Tree complex is sort of the start of the West End, the road into town branches off there so you go either West into the bars/shops/restaurants area or east into more of a residential area - the West End ends about a block past Woody's and becomes all houses/condos etc. I think both of the condos listed above are in that area on the shore side of the main road, I don't know where the house is.
There's a cab stand outside CTD so rides to other parts of the island are convenient - and cheap $20 or less gets you anywhere. Coxen Hole or the airport were $10, someone told me all the way out to the East End was $20. It's all negotiable up-front.
The biggest market I went to was in Coxen Hole, about the size of a small U.S. foodstore - had a butcher counter, produce etc. You'd probably find everything you needed there - 20mins. or less back to the West End.
