Hi,

I am about to take the plunge into a new compact point & shoot rig and want to also get a new carry-on to deal with all of kit outlined in the title:

-Powershot S95 in a small lowepro case
-2 cards, battery, card reader and charger
-FIX S95 Housing
-Tray, arm and optical cable
-Inon S2000 Strobe
-Battery charger and second set of batteries for the Inon
-Inon wet macro lens in sleeve
-Bag of extra o-rings, lubricant and stuff

I also want to store:

- Perscription mask
- Regulator and Dive Computer (large older hose attached Oceanic model)
- Log book and C Card

I want as compact a carrier as possible that is suitable for carry-on and a back pack straps are desirable since I frequently have two roller duffles to move around the airport. I have been looking at two Think Tank cases and I am not sure which one to go for:

- Airport Ultra Light 2.5
- Airport Antidote 2.0

I am also open to other options if you have suggestions.

Thanks,

Bob

I just got the Airport Antidote 2 and love it. I took the big laptop case off the front of it and have a netbook in a soft sleeve in there. It will fit under the seat in front of me with the netbook, T2i and Nautica housing, 6" dome port, arms, 2 X YS-01, AA batts and charger, computer, bottom timer, mask, and 1 reg set. It fits very well in the overhead and you can even put a small bag in front of it, it goes all the way to the back of the compartment.

I carry ALL the following in the below Sumdex camera backpack(link # 1)---total weight 15.5 lbs........(camera rig pictured in 2nd link):

-FIX S95 housing
-tray & handle
-2 5" arms & all 'ball' clamps
-1 ucl 165M macro lens in a (cut off)Koosie as a traveling (protective)case
-S&S 110a strobe
-Inon 550W lite & connectors
-Fiber optic cable, 4 exta AA eneloop batteries & 2 chargers(1 for my Canon camera batteries, have total of 3, & 1 eneloop charger)
-1 UWL 04 WA Fisheye lens with neoprene bra
-1 Mark 2 regulator with R295 2nd stage and Dive Rite octopus
-1 VEO 180 diving computer plus an extra diving watch
-bag of 3 kinds of grease for Inon, FIX, & S&S Oring-and 2 extra tee shirts with 2 pr of swimming trunks........

I know I'm missing a few minor things but in other words I carry EVERYTHING for my camera rig plus my regulator, dive computer, & an extra few clothes in this bag...I have to break down my regulator ie remove the octopus(they ride in the smaller upper compartment along with my dive computer & watch) but no big deal(carry a crescent wrench & all my allen wrenches needed in my dive suitcase which I check in)........

If you need any further info, holler back......good luck...BTW, I've traveled to Cozumel in April for the 1st time with this setup & recently went to Cayman Brac 2 weeks ago---everything made it AOK both times & VERY easy to carry(on my back).....

Adding the regulator is the part that requires more room. If you were just looking to carry the camera system, mask and a computer, then I would suggest going with the Think Tank Streetwalker HardDrive over the Antidote. Its a bit newer, and sleeker in design. I do not like to coil my reg real tight and cause strain on the hoses up near the first stage. However, this bag should suit you well..otherwise if you want a little room, go with the Airport Acceleration.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. Here is a bit more specific information regarding my regulator and mask storage requirements.

I currently keep my regulator/computor and mask in a soft case in a 14" x 11" x 4" nylon case. My hose curvature goes around the outer dimensions of the case. This case has a pocket to hold a small logbook, C Card and DAN Card. This amount of curvature has served me well with no need to disassemble the hoses from the regulator. So this is what I need to store volumetrically in addition to the camera gear. I may some day add an iPad to the mix as well.

Ultralight = 17.5 x 11 x 7
Antidote=18.5 x 13 x 7
Acceleration= 18.5 x 13 x 7
Addicted = 21 x 14 x 8

Streetwalker = 17 x 9.5 x 6
Streetwalker Pro = 17.5 x 10 x 7.5
Streetwalker HD = 19.0 x 11.5 x 8.5

These are the outer dimensions of the Think Tank Options, I am guessing that the gear itself (no reg bag.mask) would fit into a Ultralight or a Street walker. Do you still think the Acceleration is the correct one?

Thanks Again,

Bob

Carrying an I-Pad???----that's what the wife is for----------

I travel with a Skyway carry on. My strategy is to get the max size allowed by the airlines, that weighs the minimum weight. And I stay away from specialized luggage which is overpriced and marks you for theft.

Been halfway around the world and back 5 times with my carry-on weighing 30-35 pounds, full of camera, strobe, housing, tray/arms, batteries, UW lights, etc. and never had it weighed once, though my duffel gets weighed every time. I suppose I've jinxed myself now, and will get busted on the next trip. The trick is waltzing around the airport with your carry-on hanging on one shoulder, looking like it weighs 10 pounds, while it's killing you in reality.

I'd stay on that half, the other half's the killer....
