Well that's just peachy----------thanks for the headsup, won't be booking anything anytime soon with them....of course, I had never heard of them till just now.....

I live in the caribbean and my options for reasonably priced air fare to the markets I fly to are Spirit and American (American Eagle). You think that American is not like a Greyhound Bus? Try it. Everything about American is bad as far as I'm concerned, but unfortunately it's my only option most times. I wish I could drive back and forth to the states.

vaseline.jpg ......is this included in the $ 45 fee ?

That's a bummer then for you. I have never flown Spirit and I hope people who have choose not to? For us divers, charging for carry ons is very bad news that I hope other airlines won't follow.

From the news report I heard, this is there way to get the plane loaded on time so it can leave the gate on schedule. It seems ( and I've seen this on other airlines ) that passangers are bringing so much on board that it won't fit in the overhead and has to be taken off the plane and put in the baggage compartment, taking time and screwing up the schedule. Checking baggage costs the same as before.

Some people have to screw it up for everyone like the jerk in the 10 items or less with a cart full of crap, I wish they would get charged an extra $45.

Thinking the world should be fair.

The American carriers, as a group, charge slightly less than it costs them to provide the service--clearly not a sustainable business model. So it is a question of whether you want separate charges for each service provided or one all-inclusive price. If you carry on luggage then you'll probably prefer the all-inclusive price so that those who don't carry on can subsidize your travel. But I agree that getting nickel-and-dimed can be annoying. The good news is that the all-inclusive price is always available on most airlines--they call it "Business Class."

If they weren't charging for some reasonable amount of checked luggage to begin with, and people had the warm fuzzies that their checked luggage would actually arrive with them with all contents and in one piece, then the carryon situation wouldn't be what it's become. It all just spirals down.
