I am a beginning to intermediate diver. My wife and daughter, age 15 are currently taking a class to get PADI certified. We would like to take a dive trip to the Carribbean this summer. The hitch is we have an 8 yo son, who obviously is not a diver and who we can't even get to snorkel. What is a good destination for a combination of good (beginning) diving and some land activities for kids? Thanks.

I haven't been there, but I heard that the Sand Dollar Inn on Bonair is a neat family resort. They even have daycare for kids while the parents are diving. I don't have their web address, but it shouldn't be hard to find. My $.02

We have been taking our kids to the Turks & Caicos since they were born however we usually bring along a girl from our church to help out. We recently stayed at the El Preisdente in Cozumel and couldn't get our kids out of the Kids Club they offer. They loved it!

this is a little out of the box but here is my 2 psi. i just got back from a 7 day cruise to the carribean there is alot of advantage and disadvantage but for the price you can't beat it. they have child care from 3 -11 the kids have so much fun they don't want to leave. their also great food, entertainment, spa, gym you name it. and it's minutes from your cabin the disadvatge is you spend very little time in the port of calls but on the flip side for the price you will see 2-4 ports depends on the length of your trip. i just got back and i toke my 7 mos son we had a great time. pm if you want more info.

I don't think the cruise would work. Our 8 year old is afraid of boats. Just knowing that he was going to be on a boat he would rebel. It now turns out we can bring grandma along. Our son will be fine with her and a sandy beach. The only thing is, we are limited to destinations not requiring passports-we can't count on grandma getting 1 in time. That still leaves anywhere in the USVI, Mexico and I believe the British West Indies. I need to confirm some requirements.

You can get an expedited passport pretty darn fast, if you are willing to spend a little "extra", unless Grandma has some legal issues ;)

Otherwise, Cozumel would be an excellent choice.
