Hello,

I just got back from five night stay at Caribe Blu, diving with Blue Angel. This was my second stay with them this year, the last being in February. After reading a fairly negative review on both operations that was posted a few day before I was to leave for Coz, I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, I got exactly what I was hoping for.

Caribe Blu provided a reasonably priced, no frills, clean hotel room, plenty of hot water and clean towels, a working air conditioner, and a refridgerator to boot. A staff that was friendly and accommodating. Overall, I think the Caribe Blu was actually in a little better shape than when I last visited. I will most likely stay there again in the future.

The Blue Angel Dive Shop also provided what I expected. Good Dive Masters. Jorge, Pumba, and Jose, all seemed very capable and were open to diver's requests when it came to dive site selection. They all provided good briefings before each dive, were very helpful when needed, and all exhibited a great deal of knowledge of the reefs and sea life around them. At the Dive Shop, Victor has recently left for greener pastures. The new manager, Opal, was very helpful with all questions and requests. I would not hesitate at all going back to Blue Angel again. Fast boats, good Dive Masters, and a service oriented shop manager. I am sure I will be visiting them again in the future. Hopefully, the near future.

I was thinking about using Caribe Ble and their dive shop on my next trip to Coz but after reading a couple negative reports on them had decided to use my old standby the VillaBlanca and Papp Hoggs. Maybe I might just think about CB again after reading this report. Too bad that they are so close to the highway with all the noise involved.

For what it's worth, I haven't found this a problem at all and my hubby is always complaining that I am too hypersensitive about noises ;)

I wouldn't put too much stock in that earlier negative review in here. I have stayed there many times and in my opinion that review was well off the mark. Anyone who goes there expecting more than it is (a basic no-frills but clean and comfortable room) may be disappointed; it;s not a mint-on-the-pillow establishment, but if you are comfortable at Villablanca, then you'll like Caribe Blu, I am certain.

EDIT: In a room at Caribe Blu with the AC running, I rarely hear anything from the street, and nothing at all from the adjacent rooms. The walls (even between the rooms) are stone and mortar, that's why it stood up to Wilma with no structural damage at all.

Hum, that's funny... Your bio must be incorrect. It indicates you're from Chicago. The recent negative reviewer theorized that only people from Texas like CB/BA. :D

Nice review. Glad you had a good time and that your expectations were met.

Ugh... finally got bit by the ugly and hideous Double-Post-Monster.

I just got back yesterday after spending 4 days on Cozumel at Caribe Blu/Blue Angel, and then a few in Akumal, and I'll definitely be using both shops again. Caribe Blu/Blue Angel was great for us. The rooms are not especially fancy, but they are clean, and have a lovely view. The hotel is convenient to town although my husband and I disagreed on whether it is 'walking distance' in mid July. The dive masters at Blue Angel were all very good, as was the rental gear. We dove the most with Jose and will be very happy to do so again in the future. We loved the free tanks for shore diving although we didn't end up taking advantage of that quite as much as we'd thought we would. I really can't see anyone having any complaints as long as they are clear on what to expect.

Hey! You're from NY... you're not supposed to like CB/BA unless you're from Texas! :D

how is the house reef at Caribe Blu these days ? (i.e. did it recover since that last big hurricane ?)

i sayed it CB back in 2005 and thought it was simple but good. i didn't dive with BA but did do their house reef 3 or 4 times (and it was a nice little dive)
